Former Stanford and current Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck is recovering from shoulder surgery and may not be ready for the start of NFL training camp.
When Luck had the big contract extension of $140 million over 6 years making him the highest-paid player in NFL history, the main thing he wanted to buy was a ping-pong robot.
When Andrew Luck was starring at Stanford, I was teaching a table-tennis class there and Luck’s mentor was in my table-tennis class. Being a table-tennis coach and football fan, I had offered and wanted to give Andrew Luck a free ping-pong lesson (I wouldn’t be allowed to charge for private lessons on campus) and he was interested but never ended up coming around to taking one.
Luck was also valedictorian of his high school which was one of the best academic high schools in the country and graduated from Stanford with a 3.48 GPA in environmental engineering despite his heavy football time commitment. Luck’s football coach at Stanford, Jim Harbaugh, who would go on to coach the San Francisco 49ers, said “ping-pong is a very good sport” and thought it was a “good thing” in the 49ers locker room.
Here are stories about Luck wanting to buy a ping-pong robot with his new contract extension:
